A stunning 1930 Library Globe

$1,095.00
Playful elegance is the best way to describe this exceptionally rare find. A product of the depression era (1930), the globe offers a beautiful, warm patina and documents the fine map making skills by Weber Costello. But it is the stand which transforms this scientific instrument into a piece of art. Combining form and function at its best, the base offers playful Art Nouveau- Victorian details with copper and gold accents. The elegantly baluster turned and partially ebonized stand celebrates superb wood working skills of the past. A horizon ring and heavy cast iron meridian add substance. If you are looking for the rarely obtainable, this artifact is for you. The political borders hint a dawn to a new era, the calm before the storm of WW2. Central Australia is documented (1926-31).This globe does carry "battle scars" (one must remember it survived the Great Depression and WW2). Imperfections are notable in form of rubbing and scuffing throughout the orb. The base is in good condition with some oxidations and wear. Shall we say it is a beautiful piece of art, offering the perfect vintage look? Covered with 12 individual paper gores, the plaster orb has a diameter of 12 inches and a total width (including horizon ring) of 16 inches. This master piece stands 46 inches tall. This artifact is an heirloom for generations to come, allowing traveling the world of History and Geography with your fingertip. $1,095 — Item #: 11WCJUGFL30 - SOLD
