Description: The hollow 8” diameter plaster orb is covered by 12 individual, hand applied paper gores representing the world. The map is simplified, identifying countries and political borders. Mounted onto a very heavy and tall cast metal base, finished partially with brass accents and attractive art nouveau-deco details. Total height is 21.5 inches. Condition: Overall very well preserved, details are crisp, color rich. There is some scuffing and minor soiling-discoloration. No cracks or loss of map. The mount is also well preserved, no cracks or damage to the metal or Bakelite. However, there is age appropriate wear to the finish in form of slight pitting and darkening. The age of the artifact is based on the political map and manufactures activity: Europe is shown in a post WW1 stage. Constantinople has changed to Istanbul (1930) though the Manchurian region in China is not yet shown to by occupied by the Japanese Empire and re-named Manchukuo (1931-45).
