Illuminated 4" Glass Globe from France; c1930

Illuminated 4" Glass Globe from France; c1930

$425.00

There is just something special about the warm glow of an illuminated glass globe; and this French globe is no exception. At just 4.5” in diameter, it’s one of the smallest glass orbs I’ve ever come across! Made by the Forest company out of Paris, France, the globe is a real eye catcher. To add additional interest and intrigue, it also features an early Standard Oil logo above the makers cartouche.

The petite globe shows borders that help date the globe to right around 1930-31. Constantinople has changed to Istanbul (1930), Central Australia is still present (1926-31) and Japan has invaded Manchuria and renamed it Manchukuo (1931). All text and place names are in French.

The globe is in relatively good condition for its age although it does show a few nicks as seen in the photos provided. The Standard Oil logo is an overlay and most likely added as a presentation piece for a company executive. The chrome base is very simple and the glass orb attaches with a primitive yet effective clasp. The twisted cloth cord is new and features an in-line switch.
