An intriguing 1932 German glass Globe documenting travel routes of the Graf Zeppelin

$525.00
This exceptional terrestrial Globe by Columbus of Germany is of up most interest to Aviation historians in addition to geographical and political aficionados. Most intriguing is the extensive legend. It shows the industrial as well agricultural products of each country, including everything from fishing, and what type of fish to mining (from coal to diamonds), harvest of rubber as well as wheat and rice, from oil drilling to iron production and so much more. One can spend hours just reviewing the map. It has caught a moment in time, identifying trade and economics of each nation as of 1932. Advancement of human kind in navigation is visible, as flight routes of the Graf Zeppelin are shown. Commercial shipping routes are not just identified but also displayed by popularity (widest route is the most popular traveled). Politically a very interesting model as it fails to document the effect of the treaty of Versailles post WW1 (1914-1918). As part of the treaty Germany lost ownership over its African colonies. On this Globe the colonies remain to be German. This handsome artifact has a very masculine elegance with a heavy , baluster turned oak base. The lighting is functional and has been converted to US Standards. Diameter of the orb is 13 inches with a total height of about 19 inches. Overall exceptionally well preserved, this is one of the earliest illuminated glass globes produced. It has less than expected wear and in spite of some scuffing a stunning map. If you are looking for the rarely obtainable, this artifact is for you. $525 — Item #: 912COL32illGRAF - SOLD
