An elegant 1926 educational Globe by W&AK Johnston of Scotland

$498.00
Playful elegance is the best way to describe this exquisite find. An educational artifact of the post WW1 era, the globe offers a beautiful, warm patina and documents the fine map making skills by W&AK Johnston, finest cartographers of their time from Edinburgh, Scotland. Nystrom exclusively distributed W&AK Johnston products in the USA throughout the early 20th century. It is the metal stand, which transforms this scientific instrument into a piece of art. Combining form and function at its best, the cast iron stand offers playful Art Nouveau (aka Jugendstil) details with copper accents. If you are looking for the rarely obtainable, this artifact is for you. The political borders hint a dawn to a new era, the calm before the storm of WW2. Central Australia is documented (1926-31) and one can still view Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia independent (part of USSR in 1926). Imperfections are barely notable in form of rubbing and scuffing throughout the orb. The base is exceptionally well preserved. Shall we say it is a beautiful piece of art, offering the perfect vintage look? Covered with 12 individual paper gores, the plaster orb has a diameter of 12 inches, the artifact stands 20 inches tall. $498 — Item #: 311WAK26 - SOLD
