German Made Timepiece with Columbus Globe

German Made Timepiece with Columbus Globe

$1,495.00
This fine instrument performs double duty as both a globe and a time piece. The globe rotates in real time, completing one rotation every 24 hours. Accurate time is kept worldwide by using a band with hours marked around the equator and a dial on the base to track the minutes. The globe also adjusts its tilt according to the season of the year. A second dial on the base tracks the months during the year. The globe orb was made by made by famed German maker, Columbus Verlag. The details are crisp and clear and the colors are bright. Gorgeous style! I have only found two other examples of this model; one is in the Globe Museum at the National Library of Austria and the other is in the Berlin State Library. This is an incredible chance to pick up a very rare instrument in working condition! The orb dates to the late 1930's as verified by the presence of Italian East Africa (1936-1941), Iran (1935) and Germany has yet to annex Austria (1938).  The artifact is in very good condition with age appropriate wear and minimal scuffing or soiling. The instrument is functional and both dials work properly. A modern braided cloth cord has been installed with a vintage European plug. Diameter of the globe is 6 inches (marked 15 cm) with a total height of 9 inches. Well packed this globe will ship for $25 domestically and $35 internationally. SOLD $1,495 — Item #: 1016COLCLOCK30
