The Cram"s Deluxe with an Automatic Daily Sun Ray Indicator globe was first patented in 1936 and an instant success with educational facilities. This globe aided in the demonstration of the relationship of the elliptical orbit of the earth to the sun. Displaying the point at which the Sun's rays are hitting the earth by setting the pointer on the season indicator on the base of the globe while automatically displaying day and nighttime periods by using a ferule, at any given point. An interesting and unique model that is no longer in production. The map is rather physical than political. As it does display political borders of 1971, it also provides simplified land elevations and water depth. An interesting and unique instrument for any Geo Science aficionado or fine design collector. With the purchase of this artifact you will also receive a facsimile of the illustrated catalog description.   The age of this vintage scientific instrument is based on political borders displayed: Ceylon has not yet changed to Sri Lanka (1972) Congo has changed to Zaire Republic (1971)   Description: The 12 inch diameter orb is covered by 12 individual, hand applied paper gores representing the map. Mounted into a full, numeric stamped metal meridian, which is attached to the metal base. Also attached is a cast iron, movable arm indicated to be the Sun Ray representation and a additional metal half meridian, the night-day indicator. Those are movable. The metal base has lithographed details, including seasons, months, zodiacs and instructions in how to use this artifact. Total height is 18 inches. Condition: Overall well preserved and functional. Colors are bold, details crisp. Some wear in form of water marks on the map. Some of the finish on the sun ray and day-night indicator has flaked off as well as on the base itself.
