1957 Replogle terrestrial Globe with Maple Floor Stand representing the Cold War Era

$245.00
Another fine piece by American Globe Maker Replogle, documenting his ingenuity of combining form and function. He always ensured his globes not to be only scientific instruments but also fine décor. This model is no different. Classic Mid century matte gold Gimbal mount and maple base, this is a fab representation of the 50s design style. Politically the map offers an interesting view into the Cold War Era: Colonies are beginning to gain independence in Africa. Morocco is shown to have gained independence from France (1956), yet much is still occupied and shown as French West Africa. The United Arab Republic, a venture between Egypt and Syria is not yet visible (1958-61). In Europe, what is to become East Germany (until the fall in 1989), is marked to be the Soviet Zone. Vietnam is divided into the Northern and Southern Zone, documenting a devastating conflict. No doubt an era of turmoil. Description: The 12 inch diameter pasteboard orb is mounted into an engraved full meridian finished in classic 50’s matte gold and attached to a beautiful warm maple base with attractive “mod” details in the footing. Total height of this model is roughly 32 inches. Details of the map are crisp, colors vivid. There is wear around the equatorial band, minor scuffing and wrinkles throughout. Well packed this artifact ships domestic for $35.00, $75 international. $245 — Item #: 513REPFLR57
