A fabulous original German Bauhaus Masterpiece c 1950

$495.00
Combining polished aluminum with rich bakelite provides the artifact with a sophisticated, minimalistic feel. The fluid design of the base is stunning, combining form and function at its best. Originally offered by German Globe maker Columbus in a post WW2 Germany, this specific model was produced for only a short period of about 10 years. Rebuilding a post war country, only the most affluent society could afford this model. To own this globe was luxurious and a true sign of prosperity. Politically this exceptionally well preserved masterpiece documents a post WW2 timeline. Israel has been created (1948), Korea is not yet shown to be divided (1953). In addition to political borders, the map displays physical attributes, including Ocean depths and mountain heights in color (and meters). Ocean and wind currents can also be viewed. Shipping routes are displayed and identified in popularity by width, identifying the transatlantic route between the USA and Europe to be of great demand. This exquisite object de art has a diameter of about 14 inches wit a total height of 19 inches. The orb itself is made of pasteboard , covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores and two polar calottes. It is mounted into a polished and stamped aluminum half meridian and mounted onto the fabulous wave design base. The base consists of deep brown bakelite and metal. We have personally obtained this artifact from the original owner in Germany and imported it to the US. Considering the limited production and affordability, we doubt there is a second model available in the US. If you are looking for an exquisite and sophisticated statement, this globe is for you. $495 — Item #: 513COLWAVE50
