This beautiful gimbal mount globe by American Globe maker Replogle offers the classic space age design of the mid century modern movement. Oceans are black rather than the common blue or green, providing a splendid contrast to the warm colored lands. A perfectly aged patina providing the so desired perfect vintage look. An extremely well preserved map shares the world of 1958. While colonies still exist in Africa, the Space Race to the moon has started between the former USSR and USA. The Cold War era is well documented, as Germany is shown divided between the allied forces, identifying former East Germany as a Soviet Zone. A truly sophisticated artifact, interesting to the historian while exquisite in display.   Description: 12 inch diameter paste board orb is mounted into a metal full meridian with brass finish, mounted into a gimbal fork. is attached to a black, four legged base. Oceans on the map are black rather than the common green-blue. Total height is about 17 inches.   Condition: Extremely well preserved map. Colors are rich, details crisp. Soiling, scuffing or any other age appropriate wear is minimal. Some corrosion to the meridian.   Age is based on the political borders displayed which are as follows: Colonies in Africa, including the Belgian Congo are still visible (ceased to exist 1960).
