A c1960 Torica Astro Globe, a Scientific Instrument of the Space-Age

$539.00
Bold in design yet completely functional as a vintage scientific instrument makes this artifact a desirable piece for midcentury aficionados AND collectors of space age memorabilia. One can review our celestial skies from the convenience of our homes...in style! Inside the celestial sphere is a terrestrial globe. The legend on the globe is actually made of 12 individual paper gores. The Globe is mounted onto a fixed axis and has a wire ring around it. We’re not confident if this is a representation of the moon or satellite orbiting? An additional mounting with a wire arm and a red ball representing the sun is located inside the sphere and can be rotated around earth with a knob attached to the outside of the celestial globe. The exterior mounting of the sphere is made of Bakelite - Plastic and encloses a compass on the very top. It has a molded plastic hour dial, a half meridian ring in a bold yellow as well as many other features. Total height of this model is c 13.5 inches with a (globe only) diameter of c 6 inches. Including horizon ring, the diameter extends to about 10.5 inches Please view pictures for details. Feel free to e-mail us if there are any additional questions you may have. The artifact itself is in very good condition, no clouding of the clear plastic, no cracks and all is functional, including the compass. Minor scuffing and age related soiling throughout the mount, the former white ring has aged to a off white finish. In order to operate and truly enjoy the functionality of this instrument we will also provide facsimiles of original instructions.  The Torica Astro Globe is no longer in production although facsimiles were produced later with the aid of Japanese astronomers. A rare opportunity to obtain a true space age era artifact! $539                   SKU: 1015TORICA60
