This 16 inch diameter Denoyer-Geppert Celestial Globe is a superb example of the mid-century modern design style, combined with outstanding craftsmanship. Majestic in size, bold in design and highlighting the Space Age Era, this magnificent piece is a rarely obtainable Object. The Adler Planetarium of Chicago has the same model as part of its collection, received in from Mr Denoyer and Mr Geppert personally. It was a gift, celebrating the Grand Opening of the museum in 1956. As a desirable collectable piece, this model (also dated 1956) can be found at the Globe Museum of the National Library of Austria and the Whipple Museum of Scientific Instrument, part of Cambridge University in the UK. Here is your opportunity to obtain a true museum artifact! Description: The 16 inch diameter hollow orb is covered with 12 individual, hand applied paper gores representing the celestial skies. The globe is mounted into a metal full meridian with numeric embossing. Cradled in a fork and surrounded by a wooden horizon ring, the globe is removable from its base. The horizon ring displays zodiacs, months and seasons in a beautifully artistic matter, yet simplified matter. The map identifies constellations, nebulas, stars and more. Total height is 22.5 inches.
