On Monday, January 23, 1956, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for BIOCRAFT by Denoyer - Geppert, Chicago Globe Maker. The description provided to the USPTO for BIOCRAFT was identified to be a division dedicated to scientific instruments and anatomical models among other. One of the first products offered was this superb scientific Biocraft tellurian. Unknowingly, it was the beginning of the end for Denoyer Geppert as a Globe maker. Less than 20 years later, ceased to exist as such. Instead, ironically the company terminated globe production to only focus and continue with the manufacturing of anatomical models as they still do today. As a refined scientific instrument, this brilliant tellurium allowed to introduce eager student to the basics of our Universe by reproducing the motions of the solar system. Such devices had become popular during the 17th century, following the publishing of Sir Isaac Newton’s universal theory of gravity in 1687. This unique space age era model with the unusual earth model allows one to demonstrate not just the annual orbit around the sun but also provides detailed explanation of the equinox, seasons and more. It has the purpose to demonstrate how the angles of which sunrays each earth effect climate, seasons and so forth. It was to surpass existing models of competitors like Trippensee and Farquhar in quality and certainly did so. However, the Biocraft model could not compete in price. After a production of less than 4 years, the tellurian was no longer offered (according to Keith Olson, former employee) to educational institutions.   Description: The approx. 5 inch diameter solid wooden earth sphere is marked with various lines representing zones and sunray impact. The orb representing Earth does not display a terrestrial map. A moon is present which orbits around earth when earth rotates. Connected to the metal base and sun via a metal arm which harbors the shaft which turns the earth, connected to a crank mechanism in the base. The arm is about 15 inches long, total length including both orbs is about 18 inches. Total height is 14 inches. The sun consist of a hollow metal orb with opening and interior light fixture, which is functional and can be illuminated. The cone -like base consist of very heavy metal.   Condition: The instrument is completely functional, including the lighting and surprisingly well preserved, considering it has survived its educational demonstration in a school…All wear is strictly cosmetic. We have not restored the appearance as this is an extremely rare artifact.     A fine, vintage scientific instrument, displaying quite attractive but also functional for educational purpose. If you are looking for a conversation starter or are looking for an exceptionally rare vintage instrument, this would be the artifact for you. A must for discerning collectors.   Well packed, this fine artifact will ship for $35.00 domestic, $99.00 world wide. This is a very heavy object!   $2400   SKU 1014DGTELL50
