I love these small globe  pencil sharpeners! In addition to the great graphics and overall aesthetics, they are the perfect size to the fill the gaps between your larger globes! This rare model provides a novelty map of North America with special emphasis on the United States. This globe was made by KUM of Western germany. The map features the US flag in a simplified cartouche and shows the country wrapping around the globe in an exaggerated map of the United States with Canada and Mexico squished in as well. Some of the states show more distortion than others. The age of the globe is a little hard to pinpoint as there aren't the normal countries labeled. My best guess is that it dates to around the 1960s or 1970s based on the plastic features. The orb is made of hollow spun tin with a lithographed map. It is mounted into a yellow plastic half meridian and sits atop a red plastic base that houses the pencil sharpener. Diameter of the orb is about 2 inches with a total height (including base) of 3.75 inches. The globe is in very good condition with one small spot of surface rust over water and very minor wear along the seam; colors are brilliant and the text is sharp.
