A fine Italian illuminated Celestial Globe dated 1969

A fine Italian illuminated Celestial Globe dated 1969

$485.00
A superb object de art combined with refined engineering. The gimbal mount allows for one to tilt the sphere for better viewing. A functional compass is integrated into the acrylic mount. Note the attractive base, offering a minimalistic design in polished aluminum and wood with deep walnut finish. The legend identifies stars and constellations, individual stars by size and also displays the Milky Way. The rich blue of the celestial provides a fine contrast to the light yellow stars. Diameter of the orb is about 9 inches with a total height of approximately 15 inches. Lighting is functional. A date of 1969 is documented on the cartouche. With the exception of minor corrosion to the gimbal mount this model is exceptionally well preserved. We have not been able to obtain any information about the Globe maker nor have we seen anything similar. The base is similar to the Munich Globe maker JRO, which existed for about 25 years post WW2. A connection could be possible but is purely speculative on our part. Which makes this celestial globe to be quite a mystery. No doubt this stunning artifact will be a conversation starter wherever displayed! A fine piece of celestial skies, offering Italian finesse with German minimalism. $485 — Item : 01ITALCEL69 - SOLD
