An exceptionally rare American Machine Age Design statement c 1949

$598.00
Until the 1930's, the American Style was to follow the traditional design of the European Mother countries. However, influenced by the Art Deco Movement of France and the clean Geometric Bauhaus Development in Germany, US Design began to have a direction of its own, the American Modern aka Machine Age. Tear Drop and Bullet –shaped aerodynamic designs were not just used on forms of transportation but daily used objects, from vacuum cleaners to cars…and the mounting of this globe. Consisting of a classic streamline designed chrome base, this artifact offers an exquisite ambiance of the American Machine Age. This fine Weber Costello model stands out, combining form and function at its best. Rarely to be found intact due to its fragile design, this Machine Age era piece is a true museum artifact. The same model is part of a collection of the National Library of Austria Globe Museum. There are no records of any sales in public auction houses as this model is rarely offered for acquisition. The orb consists of pasteboard and offers a map displaying political borders of post WW2 (1949). The orb is well preserved and shows minimal wear in form of minor scuffing and soiling. Mounted into a full meridian with chrome finish, which attaches to an exquisitely designed base. The base consists of cast metal with a superb machine age bullet design. Finished in chrome which shows some aging in form of darkened spots. Diameter of the orb is 12 inches; total height of the object is about 17 inches. If you are looking for the rarely obtainable design statement, this American artifact is for you. $598 — Item #: 912WCMABLKOCCH49 - SOLD
