An impressive 1947 table globe with elegant Art Nouveau details
$635.00
Dominant in size with a 16 inch diameter, this masterpiece by American Globe Maker Rand McNally will be noticed in any setting.
Due to its massive size, the orb was made of hollow spun metal, covered with 12 individual paper gores, presenting a map of historic importance. It reflects the world as seen shortly post WW2 (1945) but pre-creation of Israel (1948). The independence of newly created Pakistan is documented (1947). In additional to political borders the map also identifies physical details as elevation of valleys and mountain ranges, identified by color.
An example of superb craftsmanship, this artifact offers a sophisticated mounting made of cast iron with ornate Nouveau - Jugendstil styled details. The warm coloring of the map refines the elegance of this Globe.
As mentioned prior, this globe is quite massive in size and weight, with a 16 inch diameter (very rare), total height of 25 inches and heavy cast iron base.
Originally a school globe, this artifact does show some "scars" obtained through its past 60+ years. Soiling and scuffing is present throughout; the brown spots are oxidized metal of the orb itself. Some discoloration and flaking to the finish of the base. Perhaps one should say the globe offers the perfect vintage look
Quite an exceptional piece as it offers visual beauty and an interesting political map, combining form and function at its best.
