Political display reflects a post WW2 era of 1957, the dawn of the Cold War and as follows:
Vietnam is divided, as is Korea (1953). Colonies like French West Africa and Belgian Congo still exist but Morocco has gained Independence (1956). Yet, Syria and Egypt have not joined to become the UAR (1958-61). In Europe one can see the post WW2 effects of the Allies having divided Germany. The USSR sector which is soon to become East Germany is clearly marked.
Description:
The orb itself is made of glass, covered by 12 individual, hand applied paper gores representing the map. When illuminated, the sphere offers a warm ambiance as only vintage glass globes can. Mounted into a metal half meridian, finished in brass. All compliment the walnut base it is attached to. Lighting is functional.
At a total height of 17 inches and diameter of 12 inches, this masterpiece would provide elegance to any setting.
Condition:
Overall exceptionally well preserved and functional. Minor, age appropriate wear in form of soiling, pitting.
