German Volksglobus by Columbus
c1934
This terrestrial Globe represents
the political borders as the German Regime envisioned it,
though not reality…..
Once Hitler came to power in Germany, he chose not to recognize
the Treaty of Versailles, in which Germany had to give up
Colonies in Africa after loosing World War 1. Therefore,
this model displays the Colonies lost in 1918 as part of
the German Reich even though this model is more likely from
c 1934 as Hitler and the Nazi Regime gained power in 1933
and began to dictate their propaganda to book and globe
makers alike.
This small globe is a simplified
dowel style model yet still displays classic deco step details
on the mounting.
12 individual coated
paper gores plus two polar calottes over pasteboard sphere.
Brass mounting hardware atop a an ebonized stepped wood base.
Approx 14" Tall, 7.5" Diameter
The globe is nearly
in perfect condition with only slight scratches, age toning
and nicks to the base. The finest example of this model we
have handled.
The age of the globe
has been identified by the political borders displayed: Indian
Territory is visible in th US, Kongo Staat is displayed. Persia
and Constantinople are both visible as well as central Australia.
German Colonies in Africa are displayed
