A Fine 1954 Globe Clock by Dietrich
Reimer
This superb Mid-Century piece is
an extraordinary find! The terrestrial globe is mounted onto
a clock with bakelite housing. The sphere itself is an actual
extension of the clock itself, as it completes a full rotation
every 24 hours. The horizon ring identifies hours 1-24 in
addition to the clock in the base providing actual time. What
a fantastic novelty and conversation piece! This is the first
time we have been able to obtain and offer this model to our
clientele.
The globe itself is covered with 12 individual paper gores
and two polar calottes over a pasteboard orb. The cartouche
is dated 1954.
The sphere is mounted onto a brass axis, which is connected
to the clock work in the base. The mounting also has a brass
horizon ring functioning as a time dial. A Lucite meridian
is also attached to the globe to project time lines. The entire
sphere is mounted onto a cream bakelite housing, which also
includes a clock with wind-up mechanism. The clock is in working
condition. This is a very solid and un-expected heavy piece!
The globe itself has an approx. diameter of 5”; total
height of the mounting is 10.75” with a width of about
7”.
In overall very clean and well preserved condition. The orb
itself is in fine condition, details are crisp, colors vivid,
no rubbing, scuffing or soiling. The brass on the mounting
does show its age in form of pitting and flaking, the base
has a hairline crack.
The age of the globe has been identified
on the cartouche.
