A Stunning Rand McNally Table Globe
with a Fine Mounting Representing the Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil
Era. c1924
This globe was published immediately
following the closing of the Great War (WW1), during the
on-going treaty of Versailles, which makes this model of
utmost importance and value. It is a true glimpse in time,
demonstrating the break up of empires into democracies.
We would like to point out one most unusual named country:
Instead of Jugoslavia (or Yugoslavia), the designated area
is named: Kingdom of the Serbes-Croates-Slovenes.
As interesting as this globe is
politically, it is also stunning to the eye, offering a
beautiful Art Nouveau mount, a design style originated in
Vienna as the Jugenstil movement. The unusual map has beautiful
colorings in purple, gold and oranges - Rare.
A jewel to any politically focused
globe collection and/or Art Nouveau collector! This globe
is a piece of history within itself.
The Mapping consists of 12 brightly
printed gores hand mounted to a heavy plaster dressed orb.
The orb is secured with axis rod to a cast iron electro-
copper plated mounting arm atop similarly finished tripod
base.
The base and mounting hardware
are in near perfect condition with no corrosion, cracks
or breaks. Some age toning to the mapping with virtually
no abrasions.
The age has been identified by
the display of Political borders as follows: Constantinople,
Persia, Christiania, Leningrad and Russia is Displayed
