A J. Lebegue Table Globe c1909
This fine Lebegue terrestrial Globe
is a testament of superb craftsmanship. Note the detailed,
beautifully colored map and ornate mounting, which perhaps
may not be politically correct by displaying the faces of
three human races.
Empires such as the British, the
Austria-Hungarian and the Ottoman are shown to have conquered
the world. Metropolitan centers of the past such as Constantinople,
Christiana and St. Petersburg are visible.
Coated paper gores over plaster sphere.
Globe rotation knob on mounting arm. Cast iron hardware on
highly detailed base with faces and lions paws. Approx 22.5"
Tall and 13" Diameter.
Uncommonly well preserved with only
slight scuffs to varnish and insignificant marks to paper.
Minimal age toning. Colors in mapping are vivid though subtle
by design.
The age of the globe has been identified
by the political borders displayed: Persia, Belgian Congo.
The Austrian Hungarian Empire is displayed as well as St Petersburg.
Rhodesia not yet split into north and south. Indian Territory
in the US.
