Hammond 6"
Student Globe c1931
Student globes had been mass
produced as economical as possible to ensure affordability
for the educational system. The simplified mounting
consists of a wire stand as the orb is made of pasteboard.
However, because of the economical manufacturing of
these models, not many have survived or can be found
in good condition (such as this one).
Note the cartouche on this
particular globe. It’s an overlay by Hammonds.
This model in fact is a Weber Costello Peerless. It
was common that globe manufactures did use each other
models and added their own cartouche as an overlay.
12 Paper Gores mounted on
a pasteboard sphere. Orb is secured in a simplified
student wire twist mount. Approx 8.75" tall and
6" diameter.
In good condition with age
appropriate rubbing and scuffing .Some wear to the
varnish. Colors are vivid, details crisp.
The age of the globe has
been identified by the political borders displayed:
Istanbul (Post 1930), Pre Saudi Arabia independence
(1932), Manchuria (Pre 1932), Persia (Pre 1935)
